Star Struck Programs

On April 8, 2024 a Total Solar Eclipse will pass through Toledo, Ohio. This is a rare treat that won’t happen in Ohio again until 2099, so you don’t want to miss the show.

Get ready for the eclipse and explore a variety of astronomy topics through Metroparks Star Struck programs.

Deep Sky Objects (Adults and 12+)
Escape from the light pollution of the big city and experience the wonder of dark, starry night skies. Discover the stories in the stars as we constellation hop around the night sky with Metroparks naturalists, and get up close with planets, galaxies and distant objects with amateur astronomers John Starr and Jim Gasser and their telescopes. Reservations Required

Star Struck: Solar Eclipse Preview
Come to the Whitehouse Library, located on Blue Creek Metroparks grounds, where amateur astronomer Jim Gasser will present the history, lore, and science of solar eclipses. You can learn why totality matters and where and how to safely view the eclipse. The eclipse is going to be a once-in-a lifetime experience you don’t want to miss! Reservations Required.

Total Eclipse of the Park – Viewing Events
1:00-4:30 pm, April 8, 2024

Every so often the sun, moon, and Earth align just right to put on a spectacular show! On April 8, Ohio will experience a one-in-a-lifetime Total Solar Eclipse; an event that won’t occur again in Ohio until 2099. Join us at Glass City or Oak Openings Preserve for a fun, safe viewing of this historic solar wonder. No Reservations Required.

 

Glass City Metropark
A family-friendly event at Glass City will offer prime views of the eclipse on the riverfront of downtown Toledo. Watch the sky through telescopes with solar filters and enjoy a Kids’ Zone with eclipse-themed activities. Eclipse-viewing glasses will be available to borrow. Food and beverages are available for purchase at The Garden by Poco Piatti. Duration of totality: 1 minute, 56 seconds. This event is rain or shine. Even if clouds block the eclipse, stop by the Kids Zone to learn about what's happening above the clouds.

Oak Openings Preserve Metropark
Enjoy a casual eclipse viewing session in a stunning natural setting. A naturalist will be on hand to answer questions and offer limited eclipse-themed activities. Eclipse glasses will be available to borrow. Food and beverages are available for purchase at Heavy Wheelhouse. Duration of totality: 1 minute, 5 seconds. This event is rain or shine.
