About Glass City Enrichment Center

Glass City Enrichment Center, 815 Front Street, will repurpose a currently vacant building to serve the community as a consistent, safe, welcoming space. Metroparks Toledo and its partners plan for the Center to be an accessible, conveniently located facility for services such as workforce development, youth, wellness and other educational programs and services. Metroparks will use portions of the building for park district operations.

About the Reading Opens the World Campaign

Reading is a foundational skill necessary for virtually everything we do.

It opens possibilities for all children to succeed—to learn and grow, to explore and imagine, to investigate and verify, and to lead fulfilling lives. Reading well instills confidence and helps reduce inequities.

The disruptions due to the pandemic make focusing on literacy even more important, to assist our students not just to catch up but to thrive.

That is why the AFT launched the Reading Opens the World campaign to support parents and guardians and our members and help re-build and re-strengthen those bonds and show that we are all partners in students’ literacy.

To help do this, the AFT is bringing 1 million FREE books to for families’ home libraries and educators’ classrooms and school staff programs so that all children have easy access to books, parents have access to literacy tips and tools and we all work together to instill a love of reading and learning!

Already, AFT has distributed more than 125,000 books, and it is just getting started!

In addition, Reading Opens the World is also providing teachers and school staff the tools and professional development that translate the science of reading into usable resources to help students read and read well.
