Camps Connect Kids to the Outdoors
More than 700 kids ages 5 to 17 enjoyed a full summer camp experience this season, thanks to a program supported by 5/3 Bank and Metroparks Members.
Connections Camp provides the opportunity for children referred by social service organizations to participate in art, nature and skill-building activities, such as canoeing, archery and fishing. Every day of camp had something new. Hammocking, mindfulness, a recycling relay, nature journaling and wigwam building were among the experiences.
Forty-four of this year's campers received assistance from a camp inclusion programmer, ensuring that all kids had the opportunity to participate in everything Connections Camps offered.
“Fifth Third is proud to sponsor Connections Camp to allow children the chance to enjoy a meaningful camp experience and support the work that Metroparks Toledo does to enhance our community,” said Alex J. Gerken, Fifth Third Bank Toledo city president and presenting sponsor of Connections Camp.
Connections Camp also had financial support from Safety Council of Northwest Ohio. Partners included After School All Stars, Believe Center, Padua Center, Grace Community Center, Art Tatum Zone, Kiddie Kollege Childcare, Magic Moments Daycare, Sunbridge, East Toledo Family Center, Boys and Girls Club, Pathways for Successful Leadership, and Picking up the Pieces. AquaFit, Nature’s Nursery and Toledo Grows also assisted with programming.
