Experience the Parks After Dark on Guided Nature Walks

You don’t have to be a night owl to enjoy a park after dark this time of year. Nighttime comes early, and Metroparks has a series of guided programs coming up to introduce you to some real night owls and other wildlife that becomes active after the park gates are normally closed.

Night programs have been growing in popularity, and it’s easy to see why. The parks are typically open 7 a.m. until dark every day of the year, so opportunities to experience the other half of nature – the night shift – are rare.

Night walks with a Metroparks naturalist are laid-back, social experiences at various parks for a small fee.

  • Upcoming Full Moon Walks are January 12 at Side and February 10 at Secor.
  • Nature at Night walk at Pearson January 26.
  • Bring your dog to Oak Openings January 11 for a Metroparks Mutts: Nighttime Howl and Prowl. You and your dog will love it.
  • Wild Nights Out for kids 5 to 12 are drop-off programs.  Let Metroparks staff entertain your children for a few hours. Kids will discover the animals that call Metroparks home. Activities include a night hike, hands-on science, games, crafts and a snack. Two Wild Nights are planned: January 20 at Swan Creek and February 17 at Side Cut.
  • Reignite your passion for the outdoors on a Valentine’s-theme walk February 12 at Side Cut. The naturalist-led night hike will seek out nature’s valentines.
