Garden Collection Receives ArbNet Accreditation

Toledo Botanical Garden has been awarded a Level II Accreditation by the ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program, a program administered by the Morton Arboretum.
This accreditation is specific to the woody (tree and shrub) plant collections at botanical gardens and arboretums with qualifications focused on the number of different plant species, the plant record procedures, policy and labeling, as well as public access. Different levels of accreditation exist to recognize public gardens at varying degrees of development and capacity.
At TBG, there are over 2,880 trees and shrubs of 964 different species and varieties, which include our large collections of Rhododendrons and Roses. Almost 80% of those trees and shrubs are mature specimens 20 years old or older. Around 25% of the trees and shrubs are over 40 years old, planted before plant record keeping began in 1983.
Lead horticulturalist Jonathan Milbrodt applied for the accreditation.
Visit TBG this spring to discover many of these trees and shrubs in bloom. Check the TBG page to learn what is in bloom, and find locations for over 5,000 other accessioned plants in our searchable Plant Collection Map.
