Kids Youth Volunteer Program
NEW! Metroparks hosted their first program that was planned and led entirely by kids and for kids. This new volunteer program is brought to you by Georgia (age 9) and Ellie (age 8). Their first program was on Sunday, September 27 at Side Cut Metropark. Twenty-eight kids and adults joined them to hike about 1 mile and discover sycamore seeds, wingstem, white snakeroot and drawing in the mud.
The Metroparks Kids Hiking Club is only one of many programs they are planning. They already have Bug Discovery Days and Trash Clean Up programs that are on the list for the future.
Part of the group poking at some coyote scat they found on the trail, great job with the scat ID Georgia.
Be on the lookout for Dean (age 8) and Ivy (age 11)—other volunteers that will be leading hikes soon.
These kids put in a lot of work before the hike— designing the logo, snacking, coming up with the name, snacking, planning the locations, snacking, and pre-hiking.
