How do you lend a hand at Metroparks?
Wherever I can help: VTP both walking and biking (trike), events parking, helping at special events (park openings, at the tree houses, Halloween and Christmas events, skills events for the kids, etc.), being a facility host, now new raptor monitor, and a cart driver when needed.
How long have you volunteered at Metroparks?
This is my fifth year volunteering for the Metroparks.
Why do you give back to your community?
Grew up doing a lot of volunteer work through 4H. Work and family for 30 plus years never allowed me the time. Now have time and desire to enjoy doing something I think important.
Why do you volunteer at Metroparks?
Started because I had the time, liked to be outdoors and needed more exercise. Thought by volunteering I could do some good for the park system while giving me some things I needed. I hope I am helping the park as I know it is helping me.
Your favorite park, trail or activity at Metroparks?
Cart driving for Christmas at the Manor House and working various events at the new tree houses are probably my favorites. Having said that cart driving for a couple of weddings at TBG was fun, as something new and different always seemed to happen. Actually, like everything I do for the parks.
What would people be surprised to know about you?
I was a corporate gypsy before moving to Toledo 20 plus years ago moving 9 times across the United States before settling here.
What is the best thing (or some of the best things) about volunteering at Metroparks?
Best thing for me is working with wide variety of great people you come into contact with. The park staff itself is full of talented people who are fun to work with and offer so much to learn. Meeting and providing services to the park patrons I guess is what it is all about. People are always grateful for what we do. Lastly, I have made many new volunteer friends that I look forward to seeing and working with at all the events. The parks are a fun place to be.
