Park People: Volunteer Linda Bennet
Linda Bennett
Toledo...born and raised
How do you lend a hand at Metroparks?
My main position is at the Wildwood reception desk for the administrative offices a few afternoons a week… I’m the “Hello” lady! I also enjoy working the Manor House Holidays…usually the “exit tree” …because I am rather chatty!
How long have you volunteered at Metroparks?
Somewhere between 4 – 5 years
Why do you give back to your community?
Our lives are so much more fulfilled when we give. I am lucky to be at a time in my life when I can volunteer. It’s very rewarding when one feels needed.
Why do you volunteer at Metroparks?
I came initially because my husband, Matt, was a seasonal at Swan Creek and he fell in love with all things Metroparks. When he passed away it was my way of feeling close to him. And now, I’m in love too!
Your favorite park, trail or activity at Metroparks?
It’s a toss-up. I love Wildwood but I’m also drawn to Middlegrounds…so unique…. And of course, Matt’s Swan Creek.
What would people be surprised to know about you?
Probably not so much a surprise for those who know me…but I’m a huge Duke Basketball fan…sorry Trevor!
What is the best thing (or some of the best things) about volunteering at Metroparks?
Hands down…the staff. The folks who are our Park’s Keepers are some of the nicest people I have ever met. It is a pleasure to spend time with them and I feel I have made lifelong friends here. Also…I sit at a desk looking out on nature, watching the seasons change and count my blessings! What’s not to love…I’m blessed!
