Metroparks will hold a public open house Wednesday, October 19 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Beverly Elementary School, 3548 S. Detroit Ave., regarding a portion of the Chessie Circle Trail being developed by the park district.

Representatives of Metroparks law enforcement, maintenance, natural resources and administrative staff will be there to share information and answer questions. The open house format allows the public to come any time between 5 and 6:30 p.m.

The section of trail owned by Metropark is 1.4 miles long between Glanzman and River roads, and development will include a bike/pedestrian bridge over the Anthony Wayne Trail.

Other portions of the 11 mile trail are owned by the City of Toledo, University of Toledo, Wood County Park District and Wood County Port Authority.

A contract was awarded in July to Salenbien Trucking and Excavating, Inc. of Dundee, MI, to  construct a 16-foot-wide, 1.42-mile-long multi‐use path along the former CSX Railroad right-of-way. General construction includes earthwork, erosion control, aggregate base, asphalt pavement, concrete bridge structure and approaches, drainage, pavement markings, signage, mulching and seeding.

Work is about to begin, with substantial completion anticipated by May 15, 2017.

The total cost of construction contract is anticipated to be $1 million, which includes the construction contract ($918,172.69) and a 10 percent construction contingency ($91,817.), with 80% of construction costs paid for by a Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) Grant.

Future plans call for a trail access with parking and restroom on Copeland Ave., on the site of the former Beverly School. The Metroparks Board of Park Commissioners last month entered into an agreement to lease the property from the City of Toledo.
