TRAIL TALK

Q: Why do the new trail markers have letters as well as colors?

A: For safety. Not everyone can distinguish colors (an estimated 8 percent of men and 0.5 percent of women are color blind). So, if you were 1.6 miles down the River Bluffs Trail at Providence and needed to call for help, you could give your location as marker 16 on the Orange Trail, or the RBT.
