Ice Bocce Gameplay & Rules

Ice Bocce is a fun winter game where teams compete to slide their Dysks closest to the Jack. Teams alternate throws, aiming to knock opponents' Dysks away or move the Jack toward their own. Points are awarded based on proximity to the Jack, and the first team to reach 12 points wins.

Teams:

The game is played between two teams from 1 to 4 players on each team. (4) Link to Graphic showing different setups

  • 2 Players | 1 vs. 1 | 4 Dysks each, players walk end to end
  • 4 Players | 2 vs. 2 | 4 Dysks each with one player per team at each end
  • 6 Players | 3 vs. 3 | 2 Dysks each for 2 players at one end, and 4 Dysks for 1 player at the other end
  • 8 Players | 4 vs. 4 | 2 Dysks each with 2 players at each end

How To Play:

The object of the game is for a team to get as many of their Dysks as close to the Jack as possible. Watch the 'How to Play' video below.

Game Start:

  1. Flip a coin to decide which team throws the Puck and chooses their Dysk color. (you can use the Puck for the coin flip)
  2. Puck Throw: The team that wins the coin toss throws the Puck. The Puck must stop at least 12 inches from the backboards and/or sideboards.

Dysk Throwing:

  1. The team that wins the coin toss and throws the Puck also throws the first Dysk, aiming to get as close as possible to the Puck.
  2. Dysks are thrown underhand and can bounce off the sideboards.
  3. All Dysks are thrown from behind the pointing foul line.
  4. The Dysk closest to the Puck is called “IN”. All other Dysks are called “OUT”.
  5. Hitting or striking other Dysks is permitted.

Gameplay

  1. After the first team throws, a player from the other team throws and tries to get their Dysk closer to the Puck. This team continues to throw their Dysks until they get one closer than the first team.
  2. The “IN” team only throws again after the opponents has thrown all 4 Dysks, if none have gotten closer to the Puck.
  3. Team members can throw in any order.
  4. Play continues until all Dysks have been thrown.

Scoring

  1. After all Dysks are thrown, the team with the closest Dysk scores 1 point for each Dysk closer than the opponents' closest Dysk (1 to 4 points per round).
  2. The first team to score 12 points wins the game.
