Dr. Allen DeVilbiss developed his first atomizer around 1887. The atomizer eventually led to the development DeVilbiss paint spray guns. The headquarters of DeVilbiss Manufacturing Company were in Toledo from 1888-1989. On January 1, 1970, the DeVilbiss Company was merged in to Champion Spark Plug. In 1988, Champion sold DeVilbiss Co. During WWII, De Vilbiss was involved in products of military products, including protective coatings for things ranging from helmets and planes to tanks.
