Wintering the Metroparks

Lace up your boots and immerse yourself in the beauty of the season! Join ‘Wintering the Metroparks’ for a unique monthly hike at Providence, Oak Openings Preserve, and Glass City Metroparks. Sign up for one or all three and make lasting memories on the frosted trails- it’s an adventure for all ages.

The first 100 participants who sign up for all three hikes will receive a limited edition commemorative winter hat. S’mores and other fun activities at each event will help shake off the cold-weather blahs. 

Take a step toward your fitness goals by signing up for Metroparks Trail Challenge and earn a special ‘Wintering the Metroparks’ sticker. Join the Trail Challenge community to set goals, hike, and experience the best Metroparks Toledo has to offer.

  • Pre-registration is $10 per person for those aged 5+. Ages 4 and under are free. Pre-registration ends the day before the event at noon.
  • Day-of registration will increase to $15 per person (credit card only).

Wintering the Towpath (5 or 10 Miles)

Stunning views of the Maumee River await those hiking the Towpath Trail from Providence to Bend View. Pick between the 10 mile hike and a 5 mile hike options.  The 5 mile is a one-way hike with a shuttle bus to take you back to Providence.  The 10 mile is an out and back hike.

  • 8 a.m., Check-in for 10 mile hike
  • 8:30 a.m., Start for 10 mile hike
  • 9 to 10 a.m., Check-in for 5 mile hike
  • 10 to 11 a.m., Rolling start for 5 mile hike
  • 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Shuttle runs from Bend View back to start at Providence
  • 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., S’mores, hot chocolate, and demonstrations at Historic Isaac Ludwig Mill

Wintering the Oaks, (6, 10 or 16 Miles)
Oak Openings Preserve, Beach Ridge Area
Saturday, February 22
Reservations Required, Pre-Registration Fee: $10 / Day of Registration Fee: $15 (credit card only)

REGISTER 

Join us and fellow outdoor enthusiasts to hike the Scout Trail through the incredible Oak Openings Region, one of the last great places on earth according to the Nature Conservancy. Pick between the 6, 10, or 16 mile hikes.

The 10 mile course will take you on the north side of the Scout Trail and utilize the Wabash Cannonball Trail. (10.44 miles)

The 16 mile course will take you on one of the true long distance hikes in the area and hike the whole Scout Trail. (16.54 miles)

  • 8 a.m., Check-in for 10 and 16 mile hikes
  • 8:30 a.m., Start for 10 and 16 mile hike
  • 10 to 11 a.m., Rolling start for 6 mile hike
  • 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., S’mores and hot chocolate. 

Wintering the Glass City (3.5 miles)
Glass City, Market Hall

Whether you're an avid hiker or a nature lover, this hike offers a perfect mix of outdoor adventure and urban landscapes.

  • 9:30 a.m., Check-in 
  • 9:30 to 11 a.m., Rolling start 
  • 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., S’mores and hot chocolate. Coffee, alcoholic beverages, and food available to purchase at The Garden
