Tai Chi Practice (Ages 18 and up)

Practice your Tai Chi skills and connect to the natural energy flows around you with Certified Tai Chi Instructor Dr. Holly Eichner. This program is for those who have already completed the six-week Tai Chi for Beginners class with Holly. Poses can be accomplished in seated or standing positions. Wear tennis shoes (no sandals), wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows your body to move freely and bring a reusable water bottle filled with water. This program is held outdoors.

Audubon Islands Restoration Kayak Eco-Tour (Ages 12 and up)

Metroparks is leading efforts to restore shoreline and in-water habitat at Audubon Islands State Nature Preserve in the Maumee River between Maumee and Perrysburg. As owner of the approximately 160-acre island complex, Metroparks Toledo received $3.9 million in Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) and Ohio EPA Section 319 grants to fund engineering, design, permitting and restoration construction on and near the island complex. Experience the peace of the river and search for birds and other wildlife as you kayak with a naturalist and learn more about the project.

Whether you are an experienced angler or trying fishing for the first time, we invite you to reel in Metroparks memories at these youth fishing events. Ages 17 and Under (Ages 16 & 17 will need to have an Ohio Fishing License.) 

Location: Cannonball Prairie Metropark near the map kiosk. This event is Open House style, come anytime during the event. 

  • Fishing poles and bait available on a first come, first served basis—anglers are welcome to bring their own equipment.
  • Help protect the balance of this ecosystem by taking all of your live bait home and dumping nothing into the water or onto land!
  • This event runs rain or shine. Please dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear. Please bring a reusable water bottle filled with water.
  • Minors must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the program.

Backpacking 101: Moseley Trail for Families

Join us for Backpacking 101, presented by Mercy Health, for a full mind, body and wellness experience with your family. Backpack your way through dynamic habitats of Secor Metropark, connect to the Moseley Trail, and spend the night camping at the serene Wiregrass Lake. This is the perfect backpacking experience for young explorers and families. Top off your evening with a magical stand up paddleboarding experience on Wiregrass Lake.

Learn more about our closest star, the sun, and the planets we neighbor. Embark on a scale-model tour of the solar system and marvel at the sizes and vast distances between planets. We'll hike 0.5 miles during the program, and end at Market Hall. Return to your car at your leisure after looking at our sun through the solar telescope. Roller skating, FitPark Climb rock wall, and The Garden restaurant are all available at Market Hall after the program (fees apply).

Explore the star of our solar system, the sun, with a special solar viewing session of star struck. We'll have telescopes equipped with filters for solar viewing and enjoy family-friendly activities that explore the science of the sun. Part Two of the Time Traveler's Family Adventure!  For this adventure, we will be traveling back in time 400 years and participating in the fur trade.  Can you and your group gather enough animal furs, travel to a trading post, and sell your goods for enough supplies to survive the winter?  Join us for this fun and educational program. Activities will include canoeing, orienteering, animal tracking, trivia, and more! Everyone who completes the challenges will win a take-home craft. Register by team: One adult per team required. Up to 6 individuals can be included in one registration. This is the second of three history-themed family programs.

Ever wanted to learn how blacksmiths make all those cool designs and bend all that metal? Here’s your opportunity to learn the basics of blacksmithing from one of Ludwig Mill’s master blacksmiths. The lesson includes actual forge work as well as making a project to take with you.

Celebrate summer with a glass of wine during this guided painting class. No experience is necessary for these nature-inspired paintings! Escape from the light pollution of the big city and experience the wonder of dark, starry night skies. Discover the stories in the stars as we constellation hop around the night sky with Metroparks naturalists, and get up close with planets, galaxies and distant objects with amateur astronomers John Starr and Jim Gasser and their telescopes. Bring a camp chair, and dress for the weather in layers.

Wildwood Preserve Metropark is celebrating its 50th Anniversary in 2025! Discover how the Stranahan Estate transformed into a Metropark. Hear the historic story behind Wildwood Preserve Metropark on a one-mile grounds tour. All Grounds Tours will meet at the Metz Stables at Wildwood. After the Grounds Tour, be sure to save some time to walk through the Ellen Biddle Shipman Garden or hike the trails of Wildwood! Celebrate Wildwood's 50 years of citizen support and learn something new! 324 years ago, a century-long series of conflicts that has come to be known as the Beaver Wars finally ended.  Join us as we learn about this little-known event that greatly impacted the fates of Native nations and the early European colonies of North America.

Your preschooler will engage in hands-on nature activities throughout the school year that support early childhood development and pre-literacy skills.
