Nature crimes are afoot, and we need your help to solve the mysteries! Our native plants are under attack from pests and disease. Harvest the healing the land offers as you immerse yourself in the light of a full supermoon at Pearson Metropark. Reconnect with your untamed roots through invitations, sharing circles, and a tea gathering led by an Association of Nature and Forest Therapy (ANFT)-certified guide. Healthy snacks will follow. Bring an optional sit-upon or lightweight stool, dress for outdoor experiences, and plan for leisurely strolling under 1 mile. Dr. Thomas Butler is a transplant, hepatobiliary, and robotic surgeon at St. Vincent medical center in Toledo. He is an associate professor at University of Toledo and Program Director of the general surgery residency at St. Vincent. He currently serves on the membership committee for the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and is an invited editor on several journals and has written chapters on liver transplant. Dr. Butler has been an invited panelist, and featured speaker in numerous local, regional, and national transplant events on all platforms. He was also voted “top doctor” by his peers and elected to the only medical society honor society, alpha omega alpha (AOA).

During the orientation, you’ll learn about our core values, key programs, and the community we serve. You’ll have the opportunity to meet your Volunteer Services staff as well as other volunteers, ask questions, and learn more about the many verities of programs we offer. Whether you’re new to volunteering or experienced, this orientation is your first step toward making a difference in the lives of others.By the end of the orientation, you’ll have a clear understanding of your volunteer role, know how to make an impact, and be ready to start contributing to our mission. Join us in Cold Water Immersion, presented by Mercy Health, for a full mind, body and wellness experience. Experience the invigorating benefits of nature and cold water immersion, designed to enhance physical recovery, boost mental resilience, and promote overall well-being. Alissa Caple, certified cold water therapy coach, will guide participants through the art of cold exposure, incorporating scientific principles, practical techniques, and self-awareness. This free program is part of a collaborative campaign between Metroparks Toledo and Mercy Health that promotes the power of parks in improving the community’s mental and physical well-being. this program runs rain, snow, or shine. This program will be physically taxing and is only recommended for healthy individuals. Those with heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, peripheral neuropathy, poor circulation, venous stasis, or cold agglutinin disease should not attend. Please consult with a medical professional if you have questions. Participants will be given a personal floatation device (required), and neoprene socks and gloves to protect extremities. There will be a beautiful new warming hut with wood-fired stove, changing tents, and hot tea to assist with the rewarming process.
