Escape into nature for an overnight retreat and explore the incredible variety of habitats protected within Oak Openings Preserve Metropark. View forests, savannas, and prairies in their autumn splendor as you backpack 15.3 miles over two days. At night, learn the tips and tricks for camping on the trail.
Attendance at the pre-trip informational meeting is required (Thursday, October 2nd, 6:30-8PM, Oak Openings Lodge). We will check and fit gear, talk about the trip, and answer any questions.
This hike takes place on a primitive dirt trail with roots, some elevation changes, and uneven terrain. Some backpacking or distance hiking experience recommended.

Dr. Thomas Butler is a transplant, hepatobiliary, and robotic surgeon at St. Vincent medical center in Toledo. He is an associate professor at University of Toledo and Program Director of the general surgery residency at St. Vincent. He currently serves on the membership committee for the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and is an invited editor on several journals and has written chapters on liver transplant. Dr. Butler has been an invited panelist, and featured speaker in numerous local, regional, and national transplant events on all platforms. He was also voted “top doctor” by his peers and elected to the only medical society honor society, alpha omega alpha (AOA).

Join us for a fun and engaging Caretaker and Me Animal Yoga class where little ones (ages 3-5) can explore yoga movements inspired by the way animals move! Through story time, playful stretches, and lively music, children will jump like kangaroos, slither like snakes, and roar like lions, all while building strength, balance, and flexibility. Part Three of the Time Traveler's Family Adventure! For the final adventure, we will be traveling back 10,000 years to the end of the Ice Age! Can you and your group survive on the tundra while hunting large game animals with an atlatl? Join us for this fun and educational program. Celebrate Wildwood's 50 years of citizen support and learn something new! Calling all curious, young astronomers! This special, kids' edition of star struck will focus on kid-friendly objects to see through telescopes and binoculars, space stories, and fun facts. Our Volunteer Orientation are not mandatory, but strongly encouraged for new volunteers or people interested in becoming a volunteer with Metroparks Toledo. It is designed to introduce you to our organization, our mission, and the impactful role you’ll play in helping us achieve our goals. During the orientation, you’ll learn about our core values, key programs, and the community we serve. We’ll also provide you with information about various program responsibilities, the expectations we have for volunteers, and the resources available to support you.
You’ll have the opportunity to meet your Volunteer Services staff as well as other volunteers, ask questions, and learn more about the many verities of programs we offer. Whether you’re new to volunteering or experienced, this orientation is your first step toward making a difference in the lives of others.By the end of the orientation, you’ll have a clear understanding of your volunteer role, know how to make an impact, and be ready to start contributing to our mission. We’re excited to have you on board and look forward to working together to create a clean, safe, and natural park system for all to enjoy.

It’s all fun and games at this mini-camp! Build a fort, play animal-inspired games, and craft a nature toy. Hike through the Oak Openings forest and make your own campfire pie snack. This is a drop-off program, bring a reusable water bottle filled with water and a packed lunch. A snack will be provided.
