Through a partnership with Maumee Valley Adventurers and their Cycling Without Age* program, Metroparks is now offering the volunteer-piloted Trishaw Bike and Wheelchair Bike through the free reservation system. These piloted bikes allow for passengers to sit back, relax, and experience the parks. This partnership will allow both organizations to reach even wider audiences by combining their shared resources, relationships, and experience in accessible programming.
It is recommended that you give at least 3 business days advance notice so we can schedule someone to help you.
Nihola Trishaw Bike
- Ratio between slim outer width (35.6” wide) and a wide seat (33”) for passenger comfort for up to two people.
- A low foot rest makes entering the trishaw easier.
- A solid weather-proof hood and blanket are available.
Veloplus Wheelchair Bike
- Riders can remain in their own wheelchair on this bike without the need for a transfer.
- Chairs can roll straight onto the wheelchair platform of the cycle.
- Locks into place once the wheelchair and passenger are rolled into place on the platform.
- 500 Pound Limit. This includes the weight of the rider and their chair. For example, if a participant’s wheelchair weighed 60lb, the max weight limit for the passenger themselves would be 440lbs.
- Since companions cannot be accommodated onto the wheelchair bike itself, they are encouraged to bring their own bike or use an adaptive tricycle.
*There are no age restrictions to this program.
