Kayaks for Kids
Kids can try kayaking with our 1 hour, beginner-friendly try-it sessions, enjoy unique paddling opportunities in your Metroparks with evening and sunset paddles, or try paddling at select Metroparks summer camps, including a week long Paddle Camp devoted to all things paddle sports. All boats, lifejackets, paddles, and paddling safety gear are provided on all paddles. Kayaks sized specifically for children and a tandem kayak are available at Blue Creek Metropark paddles. Adult-sized sea kayaks, recreational kayaks, and sit-on-top kayaks are available at all paddling opportunities. Adaptive paddling gear is available by request at any paddle.
Child-sized kayaks: Old Town Heron Jr. and Liquid Logic Remix models available in a range of sizes. Lengths vary from 7.5 feet to 10.5 feet, with max weights up to 300 pounds. The Heron Jr. kayaks all have built-in tow lines that allow adult guardians to two their children as needed and a maximum weight limit of 115 pounds. Child and youth sized personal flotation devices are available.
