Comments Wanted: Main Street Foot/Bike Bridge
Metroparks Toledo held an open house September 18 at the East Toledo Family Center to gather feedback from the public about plans to construct a bike/pedestrian bridge over Main Street and a connected trail parallel to the Maumee River. Comments can still be submitted through September.
Metroparks received a state grant through the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments for $950,962, or 79 percent of the $1.2 million construction cost, to build a bridge connecting International Park west of Main Street to a new Metropark planned on the waterfront east of Main Street. The trail would continue parallel to Front Street for 0.8 miles. The source of the grant was the Ohio Statewide Urban Congestion Mitigation/Air Quality program.
Several concepts for the bridge are being reviewed by SmithGroupJJR, of Ann Arbor, consultants to the park district.
Construction on the new park will being in 2019, and the bridge will be built in 2020.
