Passing the Time
This sleepy barred owl found near Secor Metropark patiently passes the time by soaking up some sun and getting some rest. Easily camouflaged, they are often spotted sitting close to the main trunk of the tree resting or silently watching for prey. Nesting in wooded Metropark habitats, like Secor, Wildwood, and Oak Openings Preserve, it will most often be heard before being seen. Its loud, booming, “”Whooo cooks for yoooou,” call, can be heard echoing among the oak trees day or night.
