Ruth Griffin

Special Events Manager

Hometown:
Toledo OH

First Job
As a young 17-year-old Ruth I got my first job as a counter waitress at Mr. Donut.  I soon became a baker and yes, I was that person who woke and said, “Time to make the Donuts.” Absolutely loved that job!

Achievement you are most proud of, career or other
My two children!  What a joy it is to be best friends with my grown children, and they turned out pretty good if I do say so myself.

Dream Trip
My dream trip would be Alaska and I’ll get there someday.

Notable pet
Anyone who knows me knows that my two cats, Henry and Lilly, are the best.  They get more Facebook time than I do, with me posting all of their antics.

What brought you to Metroparks?
All the stars aligned perfectly.  I was retiring from a long career with a National Non-profit.  I was looking for a job where I could engage in my passion, organizing events.  The joy of watching people enjoy themselves at an event is what motivates me. The Special Events job at Metroparks was open and I was lucky enough to land it.

Your favorite park visited?
Toledo Botanical Garden (TBG) is at the top of my list currently.  Over the last 2 years, cancer treatments have required much walking to regain/maintain my strength. TBG fit the bill for the perfect place to rehab both body and brain.  Walking in nature among the gardens, sitting on a bench bird watching, and most of all the encouragement from Metroparks staff and park visitors. I’m on the right side of this thing now but continue my daily walks at TBG.
