Pearson Bat Condo Open for Business

The new bat condo at Pearson is ready for bats – up to 3,000 of them.

When they noticed that big brown bats were using one of the shelters for a roost, the Pearson staff constructed a large bat house nearby with hopes that the bats will choose it as their new roost site.

In future seasons, this site may be home to a “maternity roost,” in which females rear their pups, preparing them to fly by early July.

Did you Know?
Breeding female big brown bats will often eat their weight in insects each night before the sun rises. That means a lot of bugs eaten at Pearson Metropark!
