Toledo’s ongoing riverfront transformation was featured prominently last week at the nation’s largest conference focused on environmental revitalization and economic redevelopment.
Glass City Metropark has quickly become a year-round destination for fun and community celebrations, set against the backdrop of the Maumee River and the downtown Toledo skyline. With its vibrant atmosphere and variety of amenities, this new park has welcomed more than 500,000 visitors (and counting) since the opening of Phase 2 in June 2023.

At Metroparks Toledo we are dedicated to creating experiences to connect park users of all ages and abilities to the outdoors.
This unique art installation offers a nod to Toledo’s glass industry with colors representing the green of grass and trees, yellow of sunshine and blue of sky and water, all surrounding the steel skeletal frame inspired by the areas industrial history. Generously supported by Owens Corning.
Slag Ladles These massive, bowl-shaped relics date back to the 1880’s when this land was home to Maumee Rolling Mills steel company. Uncovered during construction of Glass City Metropark, these remnants of the industrial site are transformed into a sculpture piece providing a unique planting area. Generously supported by The Cleveland Cliffs Foundation.
This unique public art installation is comprised of a group of five functional water play sculptures created by Toledo-based Graphite Design & Build, and is the centerpiece of Rain Tower Plaza. Generously supported by the Greater Toledo Community Foundation.
The Glass City Riverwalk offers a variety of indoor rental facilities, event lawns, cabanas, open air shelters and access to popular park attractions.
